Naren played a T20I for the last time in the West Indies against England in 2016.

The interim president of the selection panel Robert Haynes said. He said, "This is not just about the present, but we are also looking at the upcoming T20 World Cup next year and it is important that we find the right combination of players and the correct formula to defend our title. We have to ensure that we give some things to the place so that when it comes to choosing a team for the T20 World Cup, it will be easy, so we are giving more players an opportunity to play and get exposure.

“We felt that players like Narine and Pollard, who have played well in T20 leagues around the World, once they are fit and mentally ready to play, we must give them the opportunity to represent the West Indies again.”

West Indies squad:

Carlos Brathwaite (c), John Campbell, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Keemo Paul, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Anthony Bramble (wk), Andre Russell, Khary Pierre.
