Asia Cup 2018 - India & Pakistan battling it out for the supremacy of Asia

Asia Cup is probably the biggest sporting event that includes the Asian contingent only.

The cricketing extravaganza features the heavyweights & arch-rivals India and Pakistan along with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan & the sixth team will be decided from the qualifiers to be played just prior to the Asia Cup.

The tournament for this year is scheduled in September and is going to be played in UAE.

The tournament is going to be played in the one day format and is the 14th edition of the tournament.

The 14th edition of the tournament was originally planned to be played in India but due to the political tensions between India & Pakistan, the tournament was move to UAE.

Format of the tournament - The tournament is going to be played in a round robin format with three teams in each group.

The top two teams from each group will make it to the semi-final and then the top team from Group A will clash with second team of Group B and vice-versa.

With Asia Cup being a small tournament in number of matches, any loss at the group stage can hamper the prospects of qualification for the teams.

Team’s analysis - Although the teams have not yet been selected by the participating nations for the tournament, most of the teams are expected to field the same team that has been playing currently.

Here is an in-depth analysis of the teams that are going to be participating in the tournament :-

India

The Indian team lead by the charismatic Virat Kohli will start the tournament as favorites and they have a squad that boasts of immense batting depth. With the likes of Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni & Shikhar Dhawan in their ranks, they can dismantle any opposition on the given day.

The bowling also looks good with the spin twins Kuldeep and Chahal companied by Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar.

Pakistan

Pakistan is also favorites for the tournament having won the ICC champions trophy last year defeating India.

The bowling is the strong point of the team with the likes of Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan having the caliber to destroy any opposition batting especially when there is any inch of grass on the pitch.

The batting is also stronger than ever with the emerging stars like Fakar Zaman, Babar Azam, Imam ul Haq and Harris Sohail taking the charge for them.

Sri Lanka

The Lankan Lions are going through a phase of building and this is why they are not build up as the favorites for the tournament.

The team will revolve around the evergreen Captain Angelo Matthews.

Bangladesh

The Bangla tigers can be a surprise package and have the players in their ranks like Shakib, Mushfiqur, and Mahmadullah having the ability to wreak havoc on any team.

Afghanistan

My personal favorite, the men from Afghanistan do have that caliber to beat the top teams and come back home with the trophy.

The spin sensation Rashid Khan will be the key player with players like Mohammad Nabi and Mohammad Shahzad also able to win matches on their day.
